This is how we started

I saw a friend got tagged in facebook to an event called Blog Weekend Bootcamp. I was very interested to join but  was hesitant to signup because I don't know anyone there. I tried to contact some of my friends at work to join but my efforts failed. In the end I dragged my daughter Danaea with me.

Day 1

We took the 6PM free transpo to the venue. I was excited and at the same time still shy to mingle with other participants. It took us almost an hour to reach Malagos Garden Resort. Mark Cabrera and Kevin Paquet (we don't know their name yet as of that time) was in-charge of the registration handed us our kits and we went to our room. We had the room to ourselves. Please see photos below of our room and what was inside our kits.

We headed to have some dinner and opening ceremonies. Ms. Janette Toral gave the keynote speech Bloggers as Digital Influencers. You can get a copy of her presentation here. We were then grouped into four teams where the "senior" bloggers helped us newbies setup our blogs. I have no idea what my domain name should be so I randomly chose vanessamabini.blogspot.com. lol. Around 11 PM, we went back to our rooms to have some rest and be ready for the next day's activity.

Day 2

We registered for the Beginners Track. The speakers were:

Ms. Aileen Apolo – de Jesus is the Head of Outreach for Southeast Asia, Google. She discussed Blogging 101.

Mr. Rene Lizada (Writer, Columnist) talked about Creative Writing. He was very inspiring.

Ms. Jojie Alcantara (Journalist, Photographer, PR and Creative Consultant) talked about Photo Blogging.

The speakers for the Advance Track were:
Mr. Justin Cooke (Chief Idea Generator, Adsense Flippers) - Niche Blogging
Ms. Kring Elenzano (Director, Producer, Actress, Host and Vlogger) - Video Blogging
Mr. Roy Geonzon (KBP President - Davao Chapter) - Ethics for Bloggers

Ms. Jay Frank de Jesus (Emerging Media Specialist, U.S. Embassy) talked about Social Media Etiquette and Best Practices to all of us.

Each was then assigned a topic to for a blogpost and video project. I got nervous when they said that. Pressured! Our topic was “Social Media and Internet as Tools for Boosting Tourism”.

We also had socials night where we performed a short cheerdance, pinoy henyo and trivia. Day 2 was a long day of learning, fun and gaining new friends.

Day 3

After breakfast, we watched the Bird Show and explored Malagos Garden Resort. It is then our "graduation" ceremony. Here are some photos.

Team Turistas
I am thankful to have joined this event. Not only, I learned a lot about blogging and social media and gained lots of new friends, I also became part of a community who I know will be able to help and guide me as I go about this journey of being a blogger. So much drama. Haha.

Thank you Davao Bloggers and to all the sponsors.
